The Sadaqah Project - Advancing Gender Equality Worldwide

Gender equality is the principle that people of all genders should have equal rights, responsibilities, and opportunities in every area of life. It challenges deeply entrenched discriminatory gender norms, stereotypes and unfair power imbalances that limit what individuals can do, simply because they are male or female. By promoting equal access to education, work and healthcare, gender equality strengthens communities, fuels economic growth, and creates a fairer, safer world for everyone.

By prioritising dignity, local leadership and tackling the root causes of gender inequality around the world, The Sadaqah Project is dedicated to empowering marginalised women and girls living in the global South. In line with the UN's Global Goal 5 (gender equality), we partner with in-country organisations to deliver programmes which seek to remove women and girls' barriers to critical services and empower them with the tools to lead financially independent lives. At The Sadaqah Project, we are determined to make gender equality a lived reality.

Our gender equality focused programmes seek to:

  • deliver economic empowerment by creating pathways for sustainable income and entrepreneurship for women and caregivers

  • provide universal access to healthcare services, including reproductive health

  • ensure girls attend and complete school, particularly in conflict-affected countries

  • Catalyse women into leadership roles within their communities

Sadaqah Project Sewing Machine Project in Nepal

Sadaqah Project's Sewing Machine  Project Empowering Women
Our sewing program equips women with a sewing machine, hands-on training, and market access so they can start or grow their own tailoring and garment businesses. In addition to technical skills, participants receive basic business coaching, supplies, and help connecting with local markets and cooperatives. This combination of tools and support increases income, boosts confidence, and strengthens families and communities. Support a woman to build a stable income and long-term independence.
Our programmes operate in Nepal, Sri Lanka and Pakistan

Afghanstian Health Clinic for Women and Children

Sadaqah Project's Sponsored Health Clinic Project

Access to healthcare for women and children in Afghanistan's rural areas has become increasingly dire, with numerous challenges exacerbating the situation. The absence of female healthcare providers, particularly in remote regions, has left many women without essential medical care. In provinces such as Uruzgan, Kandahar, and Zabul, the shortage of female doctors and midwives has forced women to seek care from male practitioners, a practice many are culturally reluctant to accept.

The closure of educational institutions for women has further intensified this crisis. Since 2021, the Taliban's ban on women's education has halted the training of new female healthcare professionals, leading to a generational collapse in the medical workforce. Consequently, many rural clinics are unable to offer even basic maternal care, resulting in increased maternal mortality rates.

The suspension of international aid has also had a devastating impact on Afghanistan's healthcare infrastructure. The closure of over 400 health facilities, including more than 100 family-health clinics, has left millions without access to essential services. This reduction in healthcare access has directly contributed to preventable maternal and child deaths due to inaccessible or delayed care.

Establishing a dedicated clinic for women and children in these underserved rural areas is imperative. Such a facility would provide essential maternal and child healthcare services, including prenatal and postnatal care, immunisations, and general health consultations. By offering these services locally, we can reduce the need for women to travel long distances, often under unsafe conditions, to seek medical attention. Additionally, employing female healthcare providers would ensure that women receive care in a culturally sensitive environment, encouraging more women to seek the medical attention they need.

Investing in healthcare infrastructure for women and children in rural Afghanistan is not only a humanitarian necessity but also a critical step toward improving the overall health and stability of these communities. By providing accessible and culturally appropriate healthcare services, we can empower women, reduce maternal and child mortality rates, and foster healthier, more resilient communities.

The Sadaqah project will fund the clinic's ongoing costs, including upkeep, replenishing its supply of medicines and medical equipment. Please support this project to enable the well-being of the most vulnerable in that society.
